The DeCursed Apple — maps for Deadlock

The DeCursed Apple turns selected stars and symbols upright in Deadlock, bundled into one cosmetic VPK addon. This is a map mod (after the CITY NEVER SLEEP update). Deadlock environment map assets are compiled as a single map-instance inside the game. This means changing even a single stone in the map requires re-compiling the entire map as a single file. Hopefully, this explains the memory size of this mod. Included changes. Salt & Chalk: upward-pointing stars on both Midtown signs. Amber shrine: the star_glow emblem is flipped 180 degrees, preserving its original glow material and mask. Warlock graffiti: an even, upright pentagram with the same pale fill as the surrounding circles. The lettering, overpaint and circular decorations remain in place. Basic Magazine poster: the original circular badge is rotated 180 degrees, retaining its original painted texture. Mystic Reach poster: an upright pentagram behind the original goat artwork. The two posters are included in the shared texture atlas. Their placement in the current Midtown map has not been confirmed. Installation. Close Deadlock. Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

How do I install The DeCursed Apple?▾
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is The DeCursed Apple safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 15 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?▾
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.

Directly from the author's GameBanana page. deadlocktrade.gg indexes mods and links back; it never rehosts files, so you always get the release the author published.
How do I remove The DeCursed Apple?▾
