Super Mario 64 Soul Container — model replacement for Deadlock
My first mod ever in Deadlock, it replaces the soul container with the Super Mario 64 model with cap wings. I tried my best to adjust Mario into his SM64 jumping pose. Please enjoy SM64 enthusiasts! Since Mario has multiple eye textures, if I have time, I will add those additional versions as well. Due to the soul container being a spherical ball, the model will always be looking in the same place. Now, since this is my first modding experience, and even replacing a simple model took me quite a while + a dumbass texture-repeating issue, I couldn't really figure out how to make Mario face the player's camera. Currently, Mario will only be facing one direction, so if you turn your camera around, Mario won't follow your view. If anyone knows how to fix this issue, please tell me so. Thank you. You will see what I mean in the showcase video. Super Mario 64 Model I used: https://models.spriters-resource.com/nintendo_64/supermario64/asset/284432/ All credit goes to this author.
Compatibility
Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.
Is it safe
It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Frequently asked questions
How do I install Super Mario 64 Soul Container?▾▴
.vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide. Is Super Mario 64 Soul Container safe to install?▾▴
.vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 470 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny. Will other players see this mod?▾▴
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾▴
pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.Does it still work after the latest patch?▾▴
gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.Where does the download come from?▾▴
How do I remove Super Mario 64 Soul Container?▾▴
.vpk from game/citadel/addons, or toggle it off in the Deadlock Mod Manager library. Mods never overwrite game files, so nothing needs repairing afterwards.
