New roster hero select screen — hud for Deadlock

Changes the character selection screen before starting the game queue. The interface is based on a leak from the experimental version of the game. There are two versions v1 Made initially and attempts to copy the original layout with minor inaccuracies. v2 Based on v1 with changes suggested by Fred that improve the interface. Character tags and a colored background that changes depending on the character selection have also been added. Please note that if you have the “Force English hero name” setting enabled, the second version will lag.

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.

A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back.
