Kill Sound Enhancer — other/misc for Deadlock

How to use. Install the mod: use your mod manager's 1-click install on kill_streak_sounds.zip , or put its pak48_dir.vpk in Deadlock\game\citadel\addons yourself. That's all you need for the VALORANT Prime kill sounds. Want your own sounds? Download kill_sound_converter.zip with the normal Download button (not 1-click install: it isn't a mod, so a mod manager would install nothing from it). Unzip it anywhere, for example to your Desktop, and open make_your_own\kill_sound_converter.exe . Pick a sound for each row, then close Deadlock and click Install . It updates the mod you installed in step 1, wherever your mod manager put it. Start Deadlock and your sounds play. You don't need kill_sound_converter_source.zip. It's the converter's source code, for anyone who wants to check or build it. What it does. Plays a kill sound on your own kills, one step higher for each kill in a streak. Kills 1 to 5 play sounds 1 to 5. Kill 6 and every kill after play sound 6. The streak resets when you die. Teammates' kills don't play it. The game's normal enemy-death sound is unchanged. It plays right away, on the game's UI sound channel, so Music Volume doesn't affect it. With the converter you can also change your hit sounds: Hit, Headshot and Killing blow (the hit that kills). Like the game's own, Headshot also plays when you get headshot, and Killing blow on trooper last hits. On a headshot the…

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Kill Sound Enhancer?▾
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Kill Sound Enhancer safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 76 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?▾
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
Where does the download come from?▾
Directly from the author's GameBanana page. deadlocktrade.gg indexes mods and links back; it never rehosts files, so you always get the release the author published.
How do I remove Kill Sound Enhancer?▾
Delete its .vpk from game/citadel/addons, or toggle it off in the Deadlock Mod Manager library. Mods never overwrite game files, so nothing needs repairing afterwards.
