Keyboard input overlay — hud for Deadlock

A completely updated version of the keyboard overlay. Many features have been added, and it has also been updated to the latest version of the CNS deadlock. You can now drag the overlay directly in-game using the cursor and resize it by dragging a corner. You can customize the shape, color, keypress reaction (such as filling the background or indenting), and other visual settings. You can specify which keys to display—for example, you can enable or disable abilities or items—and change the grid layout. A click waterfall has been added; when you click, bars appear that show the click more precisely. A click counter and the number of clicks per second have been added. Optionally, the overlay can hide if there haven’t been any clicks for a long time. The default overlay layout now adapts to the screen resolution and doesn’t require separate versions. You can save and load configurations. I’ll also be releasing variations of the mod with pre-configured presets in the future. By default, the mod still does not use JS, but if the “display CPS,” “display number of keystrokes,” and “hide when no keystrokes for a long time” features are enabled, keystroke tracking will run in the background since these features require it. However, this does not seem to affect FPS.

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

How do I install Keyboard input overlay?▾
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Keyboard input overlay safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 47,739 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?▾
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
