Item Assistanthud for Deadlock

AI Disclaimer: the mod was developed with assistance of Claude Code as part of my workflow for analyzing panorama, testing, building and code validation. Item Assistant - Data-Driven Item Recommender An in-shop overlay that tells you what to buy, when to buy it, and what to build against the enemy team - powered by real match data. Note: Recommended for beginners for live assistance with item choice instead of a L -> R build order, in any case consider pairing the mod with a build of your choice. The mod scores every item live from a handful of signals, all trained on match data: Your hero - the base ranking is that hero's winning item tendencies (winner build-rate + model win-value) Souls - splits the list into buy-now (affordable) vs save-toward (dimmed); more souls also tilts the ranking toward higher tiers. Game time - display what winners buy throughout the whole length of the match. Enemy hero comp - items that statistically over-perform into those specific heroes. Enemy's live purchases - a counters layer reads what the enemy team actually buys and promotes items that beat their build. Your current build - items that synergize with what you already own, owned items are struck off, and upgrade prices are discounted for components you hold. Then a sort mode decides the emphasis: Popular (what most winners build), Win-Value (raw impact), or Efficiency. Consider viewing the…

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Item Assistant?
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Item Assistant safe to install?
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 6,266 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
Where does the download come from?
Directly from the author's GameBanana page. deadlocktrade.gg indexes mods and links back; it never rehosts files, so you always get the release the author published.
How do I remove Item Assistant?
Delete its .vpk from game/citadel/addons, or toggle it off in the Deadlock Mod Manager library. Mods never overwrite game files, so nothing needs repairing afterwards.
