Hero Select Plus — quality of life/fixes for Deadlock

Note: AI was used to make this mod. Learn the heroes faster. Hero Select Plus makes the hero select screen easier to read, especially if you are new to Deadlock. Features. Hero names always visible on every card. Class on every card , colour coded: Marksman, Assassin, Mystic, Brawler. Search box : hero name, class, tag, weapon type or difficulty — several words narrow it down (e.g. brawler tank ). Class filter buttons plus a Beginner button for heroes the game recommends to new players. Hover details : class, difficulty, weapon type, a one-line role and the playstyle summary. All hero information is read from the game's own data when the mod is built. Install. Install with Deadlock Mod Manager , or copy the VPK into game/citadel/addons as the next free pakNN_dir.vpk. Compatibility. Works with HUD Fit and 4:3 Video. Conflicts with other mods that replace the hero select popup or hero card layouts. After a game update, if hero select looks wrong, disable the mod until an updated build is posted

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

How do I install Hero Select Plus?▾
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Hero Select Plus safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 366 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?▾
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
