Deadlock Threat Icons — hud for Deadlock
AI disclosure: the code of this mod was written with AI assistance, specifically Claude by Anthropic. It has no AI-generated images, audio or other assets, every image and texture is Deadlock's own. Deadlock Threat Icons puts an indicator next to each enemy hero health bar and top bar portrait. • Two red arrows up (or a red skull with a crown) - the enemy is far ahead of you. • One orange arrow up (or an orange skull) - the enemy is somewhat ahead. • One green arrow down - you are well ahead of them. • No icon: you are about even. The mod compares souls by default, can be changed to levels via setting menu. All of threat brackets thresholds can be changed in settings menu. Accessing settings: press Escape and click THREAT ICONS. The General tab has the icon style (arrows or skulls), icon size, a number next to the icon, top bar icons, which colors to show, and whether to compare souls or levels, with you or with your team's average. The thresholds tab sets how far ahead counts for each color. Changes apply at once and are kept between game launches. Compatibility: works with skins, sound mods and QOL Lock. It cannot work together with other mods that replace the overhead health bars or base_hud. Feedback and bug reports are welcome in the comments.
Compatibility
Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.
Is it safe
It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Frequently asked questions
How do I install Deadlock Threat Icons?▾▴
.vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide. Is Deadlock Threat Icons safe to install?▾▴
.vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 213 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny. Will other players see this mod?▾▴
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾▴
pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.Does it still work after the latest patch?▾▴
gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.Where does the download come from?▾▴
How do I remove Deadlock Threat Icons?▾▴
.vpk from game/citadel/addons, or toggle it off in the Deadlock Mod Manager library. Mods never overwrite game files, so nothing needs repairing afterwards.
