Clean FX: Low-Particle FPS Pack — gameplay modifications for Deadlock

Clean FX boosts your FPS in Deadlock by removing visual clutter, without making abilities unreadable. What it does. Removes bullet tracers for all heroes. Removes Wraith's card effects. Cuts decorative ability effects: smoke, sparks, embers, glow, trails, debris and similar. Keeps the main shape of abilities (projectiles, areas, rings), zones, walls, barriers and warning/telegraph effects, so you can still see what the enemy cast and where to avoid. Installation. Download and unzip the file. You get pak99_dir.vpk. Put it in steamapps/common/Deadlock/game/citadel/addons/. Make sure the line Game citadel/addons in gameinfo.gi has no // in front. If you already have a pak98_dir.vpk, rename this one to a free number (for example pak50_dir.vpk). Launch the game from Steam. Notes. Client-side visual mod only. It doesn't change gameplay. Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Clean FX: Low-Particle FPS Pack safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 284 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.

A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
