Binary Beam Mid-Boss (0s and 1s in the beam) — model replacement for Deadlock

The mid-boss beam, but every bit of plasma is made of 0s and 1s. What it changes. The beam moves exactly like it normally does. I only swapped what the pieces look like: The swirling smoke is a cloud of digits. The streaks flying along the beam are single digits. The impact puffs and sparks spit out digits. Extra digits drift inside the beam, spray from the muzzle and peel off the sides. The core line, haze, glow and lighting are stock. The purple file keeps Valve's colour and brightness. Pick a colour. Purple is the default. There are also red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue and white files. Install one colour only. Want something else? Grab the colour picker zip, open the HTML page in your browser (works offline), pick a colour and hit Save VPK . Install the file it gives you like any other. I've tested purple in game. The other colours are built the same way but I haven't seen them in a match yet, so let me know if anything looks off. Install. Mod Manager: add the file and enable it. Manual: close Deadlock, unzip, rename the vpk to pak34_dir.vpk (any free number works) and drop it in Deadlock\game\citadel\addons . Sandbox is the quickest place to check it. Heads up. Conflicts with other mods that change the mid-boss beam particles. Model and skin mods for the boss are fine. The digits on the outer rope scroll at stock speed, so they shimmer more than read. The big ones in…

Compatibility

Model replacements are the first thing to break when Valve edits a skeleton, so re-check after each patch. It conflicts with any other mod replacing the same asset — two in the addons folder means whichever loads last wins, and the other one silently does nothing.

Is it safe

It is client-side: the file lives on your machine and other players see the default game. Cosmetic addons have not produced bans, but Deadlock is in active development and nothing about mods is officially supported. Keep a copy of the folder before a patch and remove it if the game stops launching.

Frequently asked questions

How do I install Binary Beam Mid-Boss (0s and 1s in the beam)?▾
Two ways. With Deadlock Mod Manager, use the Mod Manager button on this page and it downloads and places the file for you. By hand, put the .vpk into game/citadel/addons and name it pak01_dir.vpk. That folder only loads once gameinfo.gi lists it, which is a one-time edit — check the install guide.
Is Binary Beam Mid-Boss (0s and 1s in the beam) safe to install?▾
A .vpk is a data archive, not a program, so it cannot execute code the way an installer can. The risk is provenance. This one has 419 installs, so a problem would have surfaced on its GameBanana thread. Mods with almost no downloads from accounts with no history have had none of that scrutiny.
Will other players see this mod?▾
No. Deadlock loads mods client-side, so the file only changes what you render. Everyone else sees the default game, in every mode including ranked.
Can I run it alongside other mods?▾
Yes, as long as they change different things — a skin and a HUD work together fine. Two skins for the same hero do not: only one can be applied, and Deadlock picks the lower-numbered file. With pak01_dir.vpk and pak02_dir.vpk installed, pak01 wins and the other does nothing.
Does it still work after the latest patch?▾
A Deadlock patch can overwrite gameinfo.gi and remove your search paths, which stops every manually installed mod at once — redo that edit and they come back. Separately, model replacements break first when Valve edits a skeleton; recolours and HUD mods usually survive. The author posts updates on the GameBanana page.
Where does the download come from?▾
Directly from the author's GameBanana page. deadlocktrade.gg indexes mods and links back; it never rehosts files, so you always get the release the author published.
How do I remove Binary Beam Mid-Boss (0s and 1s in the beam)?▾
Delete its .vpk from game/citadel/addons, or toggle it off in the Deadlock Mod Manager library. Mods never overwrite game files, so nothing needs repairing afterwards.
